Winter Skin Care

Winter is an enjoyable time for most of us. With the festive season just around the corner, all of us try to make the most of it by eating, drinking and making merry forgetting the devastating toll that the dry season takes on our skin.

Winter effects on the skin include dull red patches on the face which appears on the face periodically as the skin dries out completely on being exposed to the harsh climatic conditions. The skin also feels taut due to stretching and takes on a scaly look more often than not. Applying make up to reverse the effects will not help in the long run.

The make up starts looking steaky and artificial and you end up looking much worse. Sitting huddled in front of a room heater also damages the skin as the dry and hot blasts of air deplete the skin of its moisture leaving you as wrinkled and wizened as a senior citizen. Here are some tips which may help you retain the soft and silky texture of your skin as you enjoy the cold and exhilarating season.

Bathing and moisturizing- Taking a daily bath is essential in winter as well as summer. Massaging the entire body with a light body oil will help the skin stay soft as well as supple. Luke warm water is  ideal for bathing in this harsh season. Soaps usually tend to dry the skin as well.

Specially manufactured soaps or bathing gels containing glycerin or moisturizers may be used instead of the usual body soaps for bathing in winter. Using simple home made cleansers like cream or turmeric may help to add luster to your skin as well.

Application of a body lotion or cold cream over the the entire body especially the lips, knees and elbows which tend to crack may prove to be beneficial too.

Sun Protection- You also need to apply a sun screen lotion liberally over the exposed areas  of your body in order to prevent the burning of your skin by the intense UV rays of the sun.

Eye Protection- Many fine lines and wrinkles are visible around the eyes as the sensitive skin bears the brunt of the harsh climatic conditions. Massaging the area lightly with an eye care gel will be extremely beneficial for the delicate skin of the region.
