Why do We Bathe?
The simplest way of cleansing our body is by washing it with water. The process of washing either by immersion in water or by pouring water over oneself is known as bathing. Strictly speaking, one can also bathe in other liquids apart from water but by and large, water remains the most accepted medium for washing oneself.
Reasons- The most common reason to bathe is for physical cleanliness. Washing with water helps to remove the dirt, grime, sweat and other contaminations from the body.
It has also become a form of relaxation nowadays. Soaking in soothing warm water is rejuvenating and spas cash on this process by providing an atmosphere condusive to bathing.
Water Therapy or Hydro Therapy is a process of healing with water as the main ingredient. Hot water treatment or sauna baths can help in relieving aches and pains. Bathing in sulphur springs can be helpful in the treatment of certain skin diseases. Cold showers can jolt a person awake and can drive out the lethargy and lassitude from the body.
Water is also used to bring down the body temperature. When a person bathes the body cools and the body balance is restored. In cases of high fever, wiping the brow with cool water or ice brings down the body temperature and helps to break the fever.
Almost all religions of the world insist on a bath before the commencement of their religious ceremonies or rituals. Bathing is known to be synonymous with purification.
Bathing for enjoyment is also done by people who frequent swimming pools. Although swimming is more of an exercise than bathing, yet the process is similar and canĀ be enjoyed as a leisure time activity.
Bath wear- Most people bathe in the privacy of their own bathrooms hence there is not much need for specialized bath wear. However, communal bathing or using a swimming pool requires the person to wear a swim suit or bathing trunks.
Frequency- Most people have their daily bath once in the morning. The frequency rises considerably in countries known for their heat, grime and sultry conditions
