What is Hymenoplasty?

A virgin woman has been extolled all through the ages and in every culture as well. The presence of an intact hymen is regarded as a sign of virginity. A lot of women do wish to have their hymens restored after breaking it either accidentally or after indulging in sex with her partner.Location of the Hymen- The hymen actually covers the vaginal opening and is a part of the vulva or he external genital organ of a woman. The thin tissue ruptures easily and is considered to be a sign for virginity. However, the delicate tissue can be broken by intense physical activity like horse riding and swimming apart from having sex.

Hymenoplasty is the process of  repairing the torn hymen. It is, in fact, a type of cosmetic surgery and is performed only for the sake of keeping up appearances.

The presence or absence of an intact hymen does not hamper the normal life of a woman in any kind of way. The most popular kinds of hymen restorations are:

Simple Type of Hymenoplasty- This type of hymen repair does not last long. The surgeon simply put the torn tissue together by sewing up the remnants so that it covers the vagina again. The procedure actually takes a total of three to seven days to be complete. There is absolutely no risk of infection or fever as the nature of the hymen is not vascular and the process does not pierce any blood vessels at all.

Alloplant- Sometimes it is not possible to repair the torn hymen at all. A tear through the bio material is then performed which acts as the hymen.

The entire procedure is ridiculously easy and can be performed under local anesthesia and you need not be admitted into a clinic for restoration of the hymen. The process can be easily performed in a day care clinic as well.

Abnormalities of the Hymen- While the hymen does not serve any essential purpose in the human body, there may be birth defects connected with it.

Fenestrations, septa or bands are common defects developed during the embryonic stage. An imperforate hymen is an extreme case where the hymen is rigid and cannot be broken easily.
