What are Empty Calories?

Many people are curious to get the answer what are empty calories? Foods that are low in nutrition and calories are known as “empty calorie foods”. Calories that have poor nutritional profiles but having same calorie content are known as empty calorie. If a person want to lose weight or want to shed extra calories then these foods should be avoided as these foods adds calories in unhealthy ways. Also, these foods add extra calorie to the body without filling you up.

To balance the weight of the body it is essential to control the intake as well as burning of calories in a balanced manner because if intake would be more than burnt calories than it can add extra fat to the body. For the proper functioning of body, some amounts of these calories are needed daily. The over consumption of these foods for a longer period can give way to problems as a person may fall ill. Regular consumer also seems unable to do his/her daily works.

A desert contains about 400 calories and it may require just 150-160 calorie to digest by the body. This means it is clear addition of 240-250 calories to the body. These calories add to body fat and result is obesity but on the other hand, a piece of celery having 5 calorie needed extra calories to chew as well as digest the celery this means here burning of calorie is more than intake of calorie and results no extra fat. Also, it says more you eat more you lose weight.

Some of the examples of Empty calorie foods are soda, tomatoes, turnips, plums, potato chips, pineapples, onions, bear, wine, table sugar, fried chicken, mangoes, grapefruit, French fries, candies and some junk foods.

One should eat foods that are having high nutritional values in spite eating empty calorie foods. Some of these types of foods are seasonal fruits and vegetables, low fat milk, wheat breads and lean meats.
