Ways to Stop Gum Inflammation

December 23, 2009

You may be suffering from gingivitis if you have inflammation of the gums surrounding your teeth. It may become chronic and also recur. So even from a simple gum problem you can gradually develop serious periodontal diseases. When the condition is left untreated you can also start losing teeth slowly.

The reasons that can make your gums to become more inflamed are fast brushing can that can result in infection and inflammation by injuring your gums further. Inflammation of gum tissue can be caused by the bacteria found in plaque. Gums can also be affected by female hormones because progesterone can widen the blood vessels and cause inflammation. Even pregnant women can suffer from this condition. Excess gum tissue can be removed by your dentist surgically if it is very reddish and swollen.

You can reduce the swelling yourself if it is mild. You can gargle your mouth with warm salt water or 0.1 percent solution of folic acid. You can also remove the food particles stuck between teeth using an intra dental brush. Mild gum infection can also be treated using an anti-bacterial anesthetic spray or mouth wash. Plaque can also be removed by normal tooth brushes. You can prevent cavities by brushing your teeth twice everyday. Gum inflammation can also be controlled through dental flossing. Using a dental floss you can clean the areas between teeth.

Even though gingivitis is a common condition you must not ignore it. By taking care of your teeth you can be free of serious periodontal diseases. Even a simple gum inflammation can lead to a serious form of gum disease when you ignore it. Gingivitis can also signal other problems such as heart disease. The dentist will advocate scaling of gums to keep it free of plaque build up so that over all dental hygiene is maintained.

You must also visit your dentist once every six months to check for cavities or any other problem. Regular visits to the dentist will pave the way for better oral health. Problems if any can also be corrected early in this way. You can also be free of problems such as bad breath and bleeding of gums that can eventually cause loss of teeth.
