Ways to Lower Blood Pressure

After you have crossed a certain age, it becomes important to visit your doctor at least twice a year and get your blood pressure checked. This is necessary even if you are otherwise healthy. In the case of pregnant women, it needs to be checked every month. There is no pain in getting your blood pressure checked, as it is a procedure which can take no more than five minutes.The people who are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure are those who are overweight, stressed out and tense. If you  find that you are a victim of high blood pressure, you will need to take care immediately and lower  it in any way you can as it can cause heart attacks even if you are very young.

Start an exercise program to reduce your blood pressure. Brisk walking will do wonders in keeping your pressure low. Exercise at least four to five times a week on a regular basis. Together with the exercise care needs to be taken of the diet.

Caffeine will only increase your pressure doing more harm than good. Switch immediately to something like green tea which is not only healthier, but also makes you lose weight. The sodium in your food needs to be reduced as soon as possible since it will increase your blood pressure. Cut down on your salt a little, or even totally.

Doing breathing exercises in the morning will ease your tension and help you through this problem. Have foods that contain lots of potassium and add to your diet tomatoes, bananas, oranges and some dry fruits.

If you have a family history of high blood pressure start taking action even before you have it. Try substituting your salt by sprinkling lemon and some other condiments. Avoid frozen foods and canned packaged foods. If you enjoy eating chocolates select the ones which are darker with more cocoa.

Alcohol to some extent is beneficial to your body, but if you are drinking more than one drink a day it needs to be stopped. Binge drinking is especially bad for patients with high blood pressure.
