Uses of Glycerine

Glycerine or glycerol is used extensively in skin care products. It is a sweet smelling completely colorless liquid and is extracted from animal fats. Vegetable sources may also yield a small amount of glycerine periodically. It can act as an effective moisturizer and can cleanse the skin thoroughly as well. It also has some lubricating and emollient properties. This ideal skin care product is non toxic and almost no one suffers from allergic reactions on account of glycerine. It can be obtained from pharmacies and drug stores as well as online stores  specializing in skin care products.

Let us now see how glycerine can enhance our cosmetics as well as skin care products.

Soap- Glycerin soaps are extremely popular because of  its cleansing as well as moisturizing properties. You can also add glycerine to a normal liquid soap or shampoo in order to get the full benefits of glycerine. You can add a few essential oils to your home made glycerin soaps if you want to mask the extremely sweet odor to some extent.

Remover- Glycerin works as an ideal make up remover. Its moisturizing properties help to eliminate the greasy make up products without causing any harm to the skin.

Toothpaste- The sweet taste of most toothpastes is due to the presence of glycerin. This natural ingredient does not cause any problems even if ingested accidentally in small quantities.

Shaving Cream- Glycerine helps to soothe the rough and chaffed facial skin immediately after shaving. It is, therefore, added to a lot of shaving creams and helps in keeping the skin moisturized as well.

Anti aging Treatment- A lot of anti aging creams and lotions contain glycerin. The ingredient helps to moisturize the dry and wrinkled skin effectively.

Medicinal Use- Nitroglycerine is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction in males. It is applied locally with the effect lasting for as long as 45 minutes. However, it should not be used in conjunction with oral medicines like Viagra as the consequences may be fatal.

Other Uses- Glycerin can be used for cleaning machine parts as it helps to remove grease and stubborn dirt effectively. The same properties of glycerin come into play when it is used as a paint brush cleaner. Diluted Glycerin is also used to preserve green leaves. However, it is incapable of preserving flowers as effectively.
