Tips for Increasing Memory Power

Most of us have trouble remembering small things like the birthdays of our friends, important information or history lessons. As our brain is crammed with information, important facts escape our memory every now and then. Like all things, even memory can be improved by diligence and method. Here are some tips on how to do it.

Self Reliance- Most of us do not have faith in our own capabilities and believe that we are bound to forget things. Instead, if we try and convince ourselves that we must remember, or that we possess a good memory we can succeed.

Exercise- Exercising the brain by taking up new challenges like learning a language or a new skill,  can improve our memory power considerably. Solving puzzles or participating in mind games also help.

Stress- Repeated or chronic stress effects memory. Although, the brain is not damaged, yet with other preoccupation of the brain, important thinks are overlooked and the person seems to lose focus. Relaxing by resorting to physical exercise, dancing, long drives, meditation all help to reduce stress and thereby improve memory.

Diet- Eating right is helpful for the mind as well as the body. Food rich in antioxidants (brocolli, spinach, and blueberry) and omega 3 fatty acids help in increasing memory power.

Observation- Exercises to improve observation skills can be undertaken. Better observation of the surroundings can help in remembering better.

Focus- In order to remember properly, it is required to focus on the job in hand. Any kind of distraction or involvement in complicated tasks must be avoided while trying to remember any important information.

Visualization- It is important to visualize the situation while trying to remember past events. Proper visualization can help one to remember accurately.

Repetition- Repeating things as you learn or writing them down in a sequential way aids in committing the facts to memory.

Association- Associating similar words or rhyming words are very useful devices which can aid in improving the memory.

Organization- Organization of everyday life and maintaining a routine will automatically make one remember things like retrieving objects or remembering due dates and appointments
