Tips for Home Pedicures

February 9, 2010

There are various healthy feet tips which you can follow to maintain strong and sexy feet. The following are some of the tips for a home pedicure. You can start the home pedicure process by removing any traces of nail polish from the last pedicure. Then you have to soak your feet in warm water before trimming and exfoliating the toenails. This can lead to softening of the enamel and skin. By adding some amount of milk to the water, this solution can help to loosen dead skin. You must just soak your water for 5 minutes, but can extend the soaking time if you happen to have more calluses and cracks.

You can make use of a pumice stone to remove rough skin patches and calluses. You must dry feet thoroughly after exfoliation. While drying, also remember to dry the area between the toes. While applying a foot cream, you must take care not to put moisturizer between the toes as this can lead to athlete’s foot and other fungal infections. Also take care to cut the nails just over the skin as this can prevent ingrown toenails.

You can also get maximum benefits by making use of a cuticle remover which can be rubbed in the base of each nail. By making use of a rubber cuticle stick or an orange stick, you can push the cuticles back and leave it with flattened tip and rounded ends. You must prevent sharp motions and use slow pressure while trying to push back the cuticles.

It should not bleed when you push back the cuticles. It pays to push back the cuticles using a sterilized, cuticle cutter.  You can also have a pedicurist do the job if you have never done this before and are unsure about this procedure. If you suffer from some kind of feet infection also it is better to consult the doctor before trimming back your cuticles.

Keep the nail polish away from air conditioners, fans etc as this can cause bubbling. You can use the three stroke method for applying nail polish. You can also opt to use a clear coat of polish for getting rid of imperfections on the nail enamel. You must also take care to moisturize your feet regularly.
