The Right Way To Meditate
All of us look forward to a peaceful life. Very often than not we find ourselves caught up in the humdrum of our everyday stress filled life and wish that there was a way out. Getting agitated is not the answer to your problem. Why don’t you try to relax instead? How? Go in for meditation. But what is it actually?
Meditation is basically a mental technique to relax your mind and body. If you go through the pages of history you will find that meditation has often been associated with ancient religious practices. It is used as a form of exercise now. An exercise, where you try to relax your muscles instead of working them too hard. The right way to meditate is to focus your attention on a single point. As with every other skill you need to develop the right skills here too. Here are some tips to help you.
Breathing- It will be more effective if you continue breathing normally. Trying to breathe too rapidly will only make you lose concentration. If you try the slow and labored breathing pattern, you will only feel the additional pressure of doing a chore and the whole purpose of meditating will be lost.
Eyes- The eyes should remain closed. This will help you to avoid other distractions within the room and you will be able to concentrate totally.
Posture- Assume the proper sitting posture while meditating. Sitting up straight helps. You can use a meditating cushion for getting the posture right. An incorrect sitting posture will only cause pain in your back and shoulders and will prevent you from experiencing the benefits of meditation.
Eating- You should never meditate on an empty stomach. This will only make you think of food and hamper your concentration. Meditating immediately after having your meal is not advisable either. You may fall asleep during meditation rendering the very purpose of meditation useless.
Guide- Always follow a guide. There are numerous books and CDs available which can help in teaching you the right technique.
