February 27, 2010

It has become very popular to consume energy drinks these days. Those who are engaged in higher levels of physical activity use these drinks commonly. Energy drinks are nothing but carbonated beverages which can greatly boost a person’s energy level.

They mainly contain herbal supplements, caffeine and vitamins. Caffeine is the main ingredient of most energy drinks. Caffeine can activate the central nervous system to become very active because it is a stimulant. It can also improve mental alertness. In addition, it also helps by stimulating the respiratory and circulatory system.

B vitamins are mostly found in energy drinks. They help in the metabolism of carbohydrates and proteins by acting as coenzymes. They also convert such nutrients to energy. They can help in the development of a well better muscle tone. The energy drinks can also improve the stamina and energy of the persons who consume them. There are several herbal supplements found in these energy drinks namely guarana seed, ginseng, ginkgo biloba, and many others. Other ingredients such as creatinine may also be present which can improve energy required for exercise and training.

You can make use of energy drinks as energy supplements. It is advised to consume these drinks in moderation only. You can experience harmful effects by drinking these liquids in larger quantities. Caffeine created the maximum side effects. Frequent consumption of energy drinks, containing caffeine can cause insomnia, palpitations and diuresis. Persons consuming these drinks can also experience disturbed sleep or trouble in falling asleep, which can become a problem later on. Too much intake of these drinks can also weaken a person’s immune system and make him/her prone to serious illnesses. Owing to the diuretic effect of caffeine a person can also suffer from dehydration.

However all energy drinks are not without benefits. They help in providing energy to human body by acting like a tonic along with extra nourishment. The advantages that come with the use of energy drinks make it a favorite drink of athletes. Energy drinks mainly help to relieve tiredness and improve the mental alertness by improving the energy levels. These drinks can be consumed by all those people who have to perform strong works as they can provide much more energy.
