The impact of poor diet on sexual health

You can promote good sexual health only by undertaking proper hygiene or preventing infectious diseases. You must also consume a good and balanced diet.

Your body will be supplied with all the vital nutrients only by taking the right diet which in turn can help the internal organs to function properly. Consumption of nutritious meals and water can also rejuvenate the skin.

When a person does not consume a proper diet he may have to face several physiological problems. Women may tend to overeat or suffer from irregular periods or even total absence of periods. Absence of menstrual periods or Amenorrhea can be welcomed by women because they can be rid of the discomfort but this can also indicate decreased estrogen levels. Over training or low estrogen levels can even lead to osteoporosis in some people. Even those women who lack calcium intake can be prone to develop brittle bone syndrome or osteoporosis. Osteoporosis can make the skeletal system of a woman weak and her bone density to decrease which can make her vulnerable to fractures. Low estrogen levels can affect bone development and bone density for the rest of your life. Hence you must take care to eat a well balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to ward off these problems.

Poor nutrition can also lead to other physical problems in women. They may suffer from malnutrition, underdevelopment of mammary glands, weakness, anemia, hormonal imbalance, stunted growth, difficulty in conception and internal organ failure. Problems such as bulimia and anorexia are major eating disorders that develop in younger women.

There may also be hormonal changes which can cause other problems such as sleeping difficulties, depression, mood swings, oversensitivity and anxiety. Among men, poor nutrition can lead to hormonal changes. Over training or exercise can cause a drop in male testosterone levels. Such people may also suffer from lack of sex drive, low sperm count and erection problems.

Food is meant not only for the stomach. For both female and male health, proper nutrition is essential especially if there is to be good sexual ability and performance. Men and women can improve their sexual performance and sense of well being by eating the right quantities and types of foods and getting enough rest and exercise.
