The Difference Between Heartburn and Heart attacks

Most people are confused between heartburn and heart attacks. Any pain in or around the chest needs to be understood and dealt with correctly. Here are a few ways that will help you understand the difference.

Heartburn usually comes after meals. It may take half an hour or more before you get any pain. If you experience pain after eating then try lying down. If the pain increases then it is surely heartburn. Heart attacks happen any time of the day. It can also cause sudden death. If you are experiencing a heart attack you should call a doctor immediately and rush to the hospital. You must ask the doctor what you can have on the way to the hospital. He will definitely prescribe you something.

The best treatment in the case of heartburn is antacids; but regular use of it can cause added problems like acid reflux. This will later only make your condition worse. If heartburn is more common in the morning and night then try sleeping with your head slightly elevated and you will surely get some relief. In order to keep heart attacks at bay you must check your weight and start an exercise programme even if you are not over weight. Also stop smoking.

In the case of heartburn you will experience a burning sensation in your chest and you will also have a slightly bitter taste in your mouth. You will also feel more pain when you swallow. If you are having a heart attack you will find it difficult to breathe and there will be pain in the chest at the same spot which will start to travel downwards.

If you are yet unsure after all these tips if you are experiencing a heart attack or heart burn then it is better to get your doubts cleared by visiting a doctor rather than taking a chance. If you are around someone who is experiencing these symptoms you will definitely be able to tell if it is a heart attack or just heartburn.  Regular heartburn; though not life threatening needs to be treated and cured.
