The Cup That Cheers

Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world. The English have a complete meal named after their favorite drink and the Japanese celebrate the ritual of drinking tea. It has now been established beyond doubt that tea has a lot of medicinal qualities apart from being just a refreshing beverage.

Here are some of them:-
Arthritis- Studies have shown that tea drinking females past their menopause are less likely to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.

Bone Density- It has been seen that habitual tea drinkers have a higher spinal bone density. This is again a boon for old women who tend to lose their bone density with age.

Cancer- Tea, especially green tea, has been known to inhibit cancer promoting mechanisms within the body.

Influenza- Tea laced with ginger extracts or brandy help to ease the soreness of throat during influenza. It is said that gargling with black tea during influenza also helps in increasing immunity against it.  This  has not been conclusively proved so far.

Heart- Regular tea drinkers are at a less risk of dying from  hear attack s than non drinkers. The chemical properties of kaempferol, myricetin and quercetin present in tea have been found responsible for reducing the fatality of cardiac arrests.

Hypertension- Persons, who are in the high risk group for developing hypertension can help themselves simply by drinking tea. Green tea cuts down the risk of high blood pressure by almost 50%.

Nerve Diseases- People who consume tea regularly can be protected from developing Parkinson’s disease.

Diseases of the mouth cavity- Tea can also help in fighting against gum and dental problems. The antioxidant properties of tea have been found to inhibit the bacteria within the mouth cavity. Although tea may prevent several diseases of the mouth and gums, excessive tea drinking can produce yellow and brown stains on the teeth
