Tests For Women Over 35
There are some women who lead a very active life, have a healthy diet and exercise to keep fit. Some women hardly ever fall sick. However once you cross a certain age no matter how healthy you may feel there are certain routine check ups that are very important.Even a healthy woman can be diagnosed with an ailment through these tests. It is better to realize the severity of the illness as it can be cured much more easily if caught at the earlier stages.As women age and have children and also go through menopause they experience various hormonal changes and it is necessary to do certain tests once she crosses the age of thirty five.
Some of these tests include doing a mammography to check if there are any lumps or nodes and to rule out breast cancer and it should be done even if you have done a manual self examination of the breast. This can be done once a year irrespective of not being able to actually not feel any lumps.
A pap smear is essential after the age of forty and it needs to be repeated every five years. This can be done by your gynecologist. This test is done to rule out cervical cancer. It is not painful and takes no longer than five minutes as it involves removing a few cells from your cervix with a swab and that is then sent for testing. If you are engaging in sex with multiple partners then this test should be done every two years.
Another test that all women should do is called the bone density test. This identifies the problem of osteoporosis. It tells you about the strength and thickness of the bones and it is good if this problem is detected early as proper can be taken. Persons suffering from osteoporosis are more prone to getting fractures. This test can be done while the woman is going through menopause.
Other test like the lipid profile, and checking on the cholesterol levels and diabetes should also be done. If you are relatively overweight and have diabetes it is better to get your thyroid tested as well. These tests should be done after you cross thirty five even if you are otherwise healthy.
