Support your Knees with Braces
The Knee is one of the most important joints of our body. However, you may often find people unable to move and suffering from excruciating pain due to a dislocated knee cap. What exactly is this condition?
Causes-The condition usually occurs when the patella or the knee cap moves out of place. It has been seen that this type of dislocation is more common in women than men. It normally occurs due to stress on the knee caused by a change in movement specially while running. Unnatural bending or straining of the knee may also result in dislocation. Physical injury can also cause dislocation. The knee cap usually slips and shifts outside the knee during dislocation.
Knee support with Braces- If you are prone to dislocation of the knee cap, it is best to support it with the aid of a brace. The commonly available braces are light in weight and include an elastic strap together with a buttress which lies against the side of your knee. The design is helpful because it tries to negate the lateral force of the knee cap when it tries to dislocate. You can also tape your knee cap tightly but the pressure on the tapes will ease when you try to bend. It may also come undone due to excessive sweat formation. You must however keep in mind that the braces simply act as a support for your knee and do not heal the internal injuries.
Precautions- You need to be careful while putting on the knee braces. Self medication or techniques are not advisable. Your doctor can recommend the type of knee brace according to your requirement. The positioning of your brace is important too. You also have to be careful about the placement of the brace while indulging in activities. Improper positioning of the brace will do more harm than good.
