Suffering From Arthritis

Arthritis is actually the inflammation of the joints. If you have a little stiffness in your joints when you wake up in the morning, you cannot term this as arthritis. It is common for people to start to show signs of arthritis after the age of forty. However, only a few of them really suffer the ailment later on. Stiffness in the mornings is caused by the wear and tear of the joints. This causes fluids to be released, which seep into the joint spaces and cause stiffness in the morning. Arthritis is characterized by swelling, pain, generation of heat and also redness over the joints. If you move it, you will experience very severe pain. A younger person can also be suffering from this problem if they experience joint problems frequently, with some stray pain in the larger joints. When arthritis affects people in the older age, it is felt more in the smaller joints like the fingers and the toes. Other problems like infections in the tooth, diabetes and even skin problems can sometimes cause the onset of arthritis.

If neglected, the patient can also lead to severe damage of the heart. Arthritis, hence, needs proper and timely treatment and regular follow ups. Even if you experience milder problems in your joints at an earlier age, you must make sure that you go in for a complete investigation to rule out the possibility of your problem lapsing into arthritis later on in life.

If you have frequent problems and also have a history of arthritis in your family, you are more likely to develop arthritis. Arthritis can be diagnosed by taking a blood test. If you have a positive rheumatoid factor, it means that there is trouble lurking. Rheumatoid arthritis has a prolonged course during which you fill find deformities in the joints combined with pain and swelling.

Triggers of the problem include depression, lack of sleep and also worry. Treatment is also prolonged, and can take years to cure. It is also good to try alternative forms of medication since this is a disease which takes long to cure, and only antibiotics and steroids can help cure it.
