Stress: Symptoms and Home Remedies

Stress can harm both the body as well as the mind. It can also lead to conditions such as head ache, heart disease, diabetes and peptic ulcer. When a person experiences acute stress, his/her body, brain and nervous system will react vigorously.

Several physical changes also take place when a person is under stress. The pupils of the eye expands, the nervous system and brain becomes very active; muscles become tense; digestion slows down, heart starts pumping blood faster; breathing and blood pressure becomes faster; secretion of adrenaline is higher and sweating starts. These changes can take place very fast under the signals given by the nervous system.

Stress in its reversible stage can be the cause of bad temper, poor sleep, domestic conflict, grumbling tendency, accident proneness, sickness, boost in alcoholic intake and feelings of frustration.

Stress can be caused not only due to changes taking place in the body but also outside factors such as loud noises, severe heat or cold, blinding light, radiation and drugs, bacterial infection, chemicals, pain, and improper nutrition. Factors such as jealousy and hatred can also lead to stress.

Home Remedies for Stress

You can make use of the leaves of the basil which can be a great cure for stress. The leaves work as anti-stress agents. Even healthy persons can use the leaves of the basil morning and evening, for preventing stress. You can also use the sage herb as a remedy for stress. A tea which is made up of the leaves of the sage plant can give treatment to this condition.

The tea can be prepared easily by pouring a cup of boiling water over some dry sage leaves. The water should then be strained and consumed with honey preferably. You can also use fresh sage leaves for preparing tea in the same way to get relief from stress.

Vitamins such as vitamin A and Vitamin B and minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium can also minimize irritability and anxiety feelings effectively. Green and yellow vegetables are a good source of vitamin A and cashew nuts, yeast and green leafy vegetables contain high amounts of vitamin B.
