Sleep Like a Baby

A good night’s sleep is very important to leave you fresh and healthy for the next day. Often people complain about not being able to sleep. It is very important to have a sound sleep as it not leaves you energized for the next day but also improves your immune system as proved by many studies. Here are some simple tips on how to get that sound sleep.

Make your breakfast the heaviest meal of the day. We all know that the body needs energy to digest the food we eat. If you eat a heavy meal later in the day, the body has to work hard in digesting the food when you are actually trying to sleep. It is advised to have proteins during the breakfast or lunch and small portions of carbohydrates in the dinner.

Do not have tea or coffee before going to bed. Caffeine should be avoided after 2 pm as it stimulates the mind and doesn’t let it sleep. Also, avoid alcohol before sleeping as it gives you a frequently interrupted sleep.

Drink lots of water. Dehydration causes low grade chronic fatigue so have at least 8 – 10 glasses of water every day. While exercising, add 4-6 more glasses of water. Usually, avoid drinking water right before going to bed to avoid those frequent trips to the washroom.

Do not exercise before going to bed. Regular exercising is very important to keep you fit and give you a sound sleep at night as it relaxes your mind and body. But if you exercise right before going to bed, it will raise your body temperature and prevent you from falling asleep.

Do not get into your bed unless you are feeling sleepy. If you fail to fall asleep within 15 to 20 minutes of getting into bed, get up and go to your living room and start reading until you feel tired again. Do not keep lying down in your bed if you are unable to sleep.
