Skin Care After Menopause

Some women are blessed with naturally healthy skin that requires very little care. As a result, they hardly bother to think about it as they breeze through their youth nonchalantly. The problems begin once they enter their forties. By the time they reach the next decade, they are horrified to discover that their skin has lost much of its natural glow and has become dry and wrinkled. Age also results in prominent sagging of the skin.

The loss of hormones following menopause has devastating effects on the skin. The skin now takes longer to renew itself as it fails to retain the moisture. Natural body oils are reduced and the skin feels tighter and dry. The tell tale wrinkles now make their appearance with fine lines appearing around the eyes and mouth. You are aghast when you find that lines have also invaded the skin of your cheeks and neck. The collagen and elastin deposits of your skin shrink too making you look positively aged.

Following these basic tips once you hit your fifties will help in making you look younger:-

Moisturize- The dryness of the skin can be combated by following a proper moisturizing technique. Don’t just pick up an over the counter all-purpose moisturizer. Instead consult a beautician and get quality products which act on different layers of your skin and help you to increase your skin’s natural moisture retaining capacity.

Make-Up- Do not use dry pancake or oil free foundation now. Using too much of loose powder is also not recommended. The powder will emphasize your wrinkles by settling into them. Use pale or lighter colors on your lips to look graceful.

Hair- You will have to realize that your hair cannot remain the same after you cross fifty. Choose a hair color that suits your age. Wear it short for achieving a dignified and mature look.

Exercise- Regular exercise along with a balanced diet will increase the blood circulation to your skin and help you retain your youthful look.

Sun Protection- Always remember to use an effective sun screen before going out.
