Rosacea – Treatment Options

Rosacea results in inflammation of the skin because of dilated blood vessels. When a person suffers from this condition, the skin gets infected by bacteria. The face, eyes and other body areas may be affected by this condition. Though this condition can start early, it may become very serious as a person gets older.

There are several symptoms that accompany Rosacea. These include flushing or redness of the skin which can get worse with time, papules which are fluid filled spots, pimples or pustules and Telangiectasia which is a widening of small blood vessels in an area. Rosacea may also be accompanied by stinging sensation of skin, dry skin, edema, lumps or thickened skin, redness or itching in the eyes and others.

Though the real cause for this condition remains unknown, many people inherit this condition generally. It can also be caused in people who are known to blush a lot. Other than this, Rosacea is commonly caused because of the dilated blood vessels from stimulation and become dilated permanently in course of time.

Stimulation such as hot baths, sunlight, strenuous exercise, cold temperatures and windy conditions, emotional stress, alcohol consumption, menopause and long term use of topical steroids on skin surface can aggravate this condition further.

The basic processes of Rosacea such as blood vessel dilation and redness cannot be cured through traditional medicines. Many people nowadays opt for laser treatment may to cure skin irregularities emerging from Rosacea and to eliminate the dilated blood vessels.

Destruction of the dilated blood vessels can take place through the passage of laser light. When the condition is accompanied by infection, Rosacea is treated with antibiotics. These are usually applied on the surface of the skin. In case of severe skin conditions, oral medicines may be prescribed such as Tetracycline, erythromycin, minocycline and others.

If Rosacea is accompanied by pimple formation, you can make use of skin cleansers. There are various alternative medicines also for treating this skin condition. These include creams and lotions for treating Rosacea. Inflammation of skin can be cured by these creams as they contain herbal extracts, natural oils and other anti-oxidants that alleviate that can encourage the healing process.
