Reduce the Ugly Effects of Skin Psoriasis
Psoriasis is believed to be caused due to a defective immune system of the body. It has often found to be hereditary in origin. The disease is manifested by severe redness, itching and white scale like flaky appearance.
Psoriasis can be combated successfully for a while but eventually flares up again depending on the severity of the condition. All the symptoms specially the silvery white patches on the body can be treated by a number of ways which include both prescribed drugs as well as age old home remedies. Here are a few tips which will help you to reduce the ugly white patches as well as lessen the pain and discomfort appreciably.
Bathe- Soaking in a warm bath for extended periods certainly helps to loosen the scaly flakes of the skin and will provide a soothing effect all over. Extreme hot water may be ineffective in such cases as it dries out the skin completely. Adding a spoonful of oatmeal or Epsom salt to the warm water may help to contain the condition to a great extent as well.
Moisturizing- Keeping the skin moisturized at all times will also help in reducing the scaly appearance of the skin. A smooth and oily skin will also help to loosen the dry scales and your skin will look more or less normal. Skin creams high in oil content work ideally for psoriasis laden skin as they help to retain the moisture in the skin for a long time. Also purchasing products containing tar may help to reduce the root cause of the problem by slowing down the regeneration of the cells which again will lessen the formation of white patches on your skin.
Medication- Ointments or skin creams containing lactic acid and salicylic acid are very effective against this particular dermatological problem. While most of these are available over the counter, it is a good idea to consult a registered medical practitioner for prescribing skin products which will produce no adverse effects in the long run. Using medicated shampoos containing salicylic acid for washing your hair may also help in minimizing the condition.
