Protect your Feet if you have Diabetes
Diabetes also causes problems with the feet. This is more common in those who are over 40 and have diabetes. Diabetes can actually make the feet go numb.
This can be dangerous as if the patient loses sensation on the feet they will not know if they have any injury on the foot as they will feel no pain even if they step on a sharp object.There are some ways to protect your feet if you are suffering from diabetes.
You must wash your feet regularly and keep them clean. Pay careful attention to the area between the toes. If you are going to soak your feet in a tub of water then check the water with your hand or elbow since if your feet are numb so that you do not burn your feet with hot water and not even realize it.
When you come home remove your footwear and check them to see if there is anything sharp on them. Also clean your footwear regularly to remove anything that may be stuck on them. If you experience any tingling or burning in your feet or a discoloration on the feet; you must inform the doctor immediately.
A diabetic must always wear shoes or slippers even if they are at home so that there feet are always protected. Make sure never to wear wet shoes as you will are more prone to infections. If you have a corn on your foot never try and remove it yourself; go to the doctor instead. A diabetic must quit smoking as smoking reduces blood circulation to the feet and legs causing more problems.
If your toe nails are long and need to cut it; it is better to use an emery board to shape them rather than using a scissors or a nail cutter. There are special shoes available for diabetics with soft in soles that help if you are suffering from high pressure under your feet. these are good to use as they prevent the formation of corns and calluses that may eventually lead to an ulcer. So make sure to take lots of care of your feet if you are suffering from this dreaded disease.
