Protect your baby from sun’s ill effects

Though babies mainly stay indoors, you may have to take them out occasionally for doctor visits or other adventure trips outside. At such times parents must see that their baby is not exposed to sunlight too much.

Though sunlight has vitamin D which is vital for your child’s health, sun exposure for a longer time can have drastic effects on the baby’s health. This is because of the harmful UV rays of the sun. Ultra violet or UV radiation can damage the baby’s health both in the short as well as long term and even bring about risk towards cancer. The risk for such diseases is higher if your child has pale skin. You must ensure that the child is well protected against sunlight as this can prevent sun damage and sun burn.

Sun protection for babies takes 2 forms namely; creams to safeguard exposed skin of babies and clothing and protective accessories to shield your baby. Various sun screens that are created to protect young baby skin are available in the market. You must not in any case use a adult skin cream on your baby as this can cause skin irritation. You can select a cream that offers maximum protection from UVA and UVB rays.

You can also opt for parasols and sun protection dresses to guard your baby from harmful rays of the sun. You can select clothes with long sleeves which can offer the best protection from the sun.  You must choose clothes that are comfortable and not too tight while choosing them for children. Also cotton clothes are the best as they can prevent rashes and other skin problems which can easily form on delicate skin of babies.

You can also select a broad rimmed and a colorful hat which will be able to cover your baby’s ears, face and neck. These are the most exposed and vulnerable parts of babies. You can also have window shades at home or sun protection on the car’s windshield which can protect babies in a better way while traveling. You can also select from a range of parasols which can safeguard babies in buggies and prams.
