Prostate Enlargement Indications
An enlarged prostate is one of the commonest health problems associated with males. You will find that most elderly males face the problem some time or the other in their lives. The gland is usually walnut sized and serves as a passage for urethra which carries both urine and semen.
Causes- The prostate can become enlarged for a variety of reasons although aging is one the chief causes. Infections, Excessive storage of sperms and cancer can all result in the prostate getting engorged well beyond its normal size.
Indications- Frequency in passing urine is one of the first symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. While it may be overlooked at first, frequent visits to the men’s room will give you an indication that something is wrong. Nocturnal passing of urine is more common when you have prostate enlargement.
In spite of urinating frequently you may find that your bladder is not being emptied completely every time you make the trip to the men’s room. This happens because the enlarged gland crimps the urethra making it impossible to empty out fully.
Another pronounced symptom of the enlarged prostate is pain during urination. You may feel a burning sensation while passing urine. It is advisable to consult a doctor immediately in such cases.
Presence of blood in urine is another worrisome feature. Serious implications like cancer of the prostate cannot be ruled out when you pass blood along with urine.
There may be a host of other minor problems associated as well. Pain in the thighs, lower back or hip may linger on when your prostate is enlarged. Your sexual life may also be affected considerably as you achieve difficulty in achieving and maintaining an erection.
However, most men tend to ignore the symptoms and live with the annoying problems all their lives. It will not harm you if the causes are benign but serious implications of prostate enlargement cannot be ruled out always. It is; therefore, wise to consult an urologist as soon as you experience the symptoms of prostate enlargement.
