Preventing Food Poisoning
Food poisoning is more common in summer as due to the heat the tendency for food to go bad is much higher. In fact it it is the children who are more at risk of suffering from poisoning rather than adults. If you are suffering from food poisoning you will be vomiting and passing loose stools. This can be dangerous as you can get dehydrated. It is better not to start medication immediately so as to let all the toxins come out from the body. If after two days the problem still persists you can start a dose of antibiotics.
There are lots of ways that you can protect yourself and your kids from food poisoning. Always wash your hands when you come home and preferably with an antibacterial soap. Use plastic chopping boards at home instead of the wooden ones and have a separate one for meats and another for the vegetables. If you have pets at home or have petted pets and come home; make sure to wash you hands before eating so as to remove any germs.
In the summer avoid storing left overs as regular heating and freezing makes the food go bad. Milk and milk products must also be avoided as they to have a tendency to go sour more quickly when it is hot. If you are eating cakes avoid the ones that contain white cream as they too go bad very quickly.
If you are eating salads avoid eating it at restaurants; try eating it at home and wash the leaves yourself. After cooking clean the work top with a disinfectant. Germs also spread through the handling of telephones and the computer so make sure to clean them with a disinfectant as well.
It is better to protect your self from food poisoning as if you get a severe case of it you may need to be put on saline or liquid glucose and food poisoning can sometimes cause parasites in the stomach. If you have just recovered from a case of food poisoning then take care on your eating habits for at least 6 months.
