Natural Pain Relievers

August 7, 2009

Almost all of us are used to buying pain killer drugs over the counter. Drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen are an inexpensive and effective way for dulling the pain. While these synthetic drugs provide substantial relief from pain, we often have to encounter harmful side effects too. Aspirin, for instance, can cause stomach problems and excessive usage of ibuprofen may lead to liver damage. Pain killers extracted from natural sources are much safer to use. While they may not produce results overnight, they are a much safer option as they do not cause drug tolerance or addiction.

Natural Pain killers derived from herbs and plants have amazing pain relieving properties as well. The willow bark is very similar to aspirin and has been used as an age old remedy to alleviate pain. Capsaicin is an ingredient found in Chilies. Rubbing the Capsaicin cream over the affected area will help you get over the pain and soreness. This ingredient responsible for the hotness in chilies is also rich in analgesic properties.

The Frank incense derivative Boswalia is known to reduce pain within a period of two months. Cherries have an anti inflammatory effect in addition to its pain relieving properties. Almost all  Indian recipes use Turmeric which is well known for its pain relieving and anti inflammatory nature. It works best when taken together with black pepper. Ginger is another useful ingredient when it comes to treating pain. Sore throat can be relieved by drinking copious amount of ginger tea.

Supplementing your meals with vitamins and minerals can help in pain management as well. Vitamin B12 has been identified as a pain reliever and magnesium is known for its muscular support and immunity boosting properties can also reduce pain considerably. Vitamin D deficiency is a common cause for muscular pain.

Other natural methods like acupuncture, yoga and music therapy can do wonders when it comes to relieving your pain. Meditation is another common method of managing pain where your subconscious can be prompted to root out the source of pain.
