Muscle cramps- Causes and Treatments

Cramps are very sustained and forceful and defined as prolonged or involuntary contraction of a group or part of the muscles. Cramps can be difficult to handle as they can recur frequently. It can be painful and exhausting for the person who experiences the same. People who are very busy can find it to be very troubling. Office workers who are seated for long periods of time, athletes and construction can be affected by this problem. Muscle cramps can hinder the work of these people and make them unproductive.

There are other conditions that accompany muscle cramps such as paralysis, tic, muscle itch, tingling etc. Other health problems or symptoms that can accompany this condition include dry mouth, disorientation, loud heart beat, regurgitation, pericardial effusion etc. Different parts of the body can be affected by muscle cramps. Other conditions that can encourage this condition include diabetes, thyroid disease, circulation problems, dermatomyositis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Muscle relaxant drugs such as skelaxin, carisoprodol and cyclobezaprine are the common drugs prescribed by doctors to patients suffering from muscle cramps. There are various other home remdies also to cure this problem namely apple cider vinegar and treatment options such as relaxation exercises, massage and acupressure treatment. Patients must also make it a point to consume foods rich in nutrients such as protein, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin C to be free from the problem of muscle cramps. Dehydration is one of the main causes for muscle cramps. You must drink plenty of water to replenish lost fluids. Chamomile tea also can relax the muscles and can be consumed regularly. Honey is another effective remedy that can prevent leg and foot cramps in the night. Mustard and pickle juice are rich in acetic acid which can also prevent cramps in leg muscles. You can also consume calcium rich foods such as yoghurt, nuts and green leafy vegetables that can help you find relief from this problem.
