Mouth Ulcers: Types and Remedies
A mouth ulcer is nothing but a painful sore in the mouth. It can appear on the lips, gums, tongue or inside of cheeks. You may feel a tingling or burning sensation in your mouth once a sore appears. Mouth ulcers can appear in clusters or singly. They are reddish sometimes but mostly they are yellow or white.
Mouth ulcers take the form of large ulcers, minor ulcers or herpetiform ulcers. Mouth ulcers generally heal in 7 to 10 days. Herpetiform ulcers are those where the ulcers appear as clusters of 10 to 100.
Common Causes of Mouth ulcers
Iron or vitamin deficiency particularly B12 and C can cause ulcers. Mouth ulcers are also caused by food allergies, stress, biting of cheek, poor dental hygiene, infections such as herpes simplex, bowel disease, hormonal imbalance, skin problems etc.
Home Remedies for Mouth Ulcers
By applying peppermint oil on the affected areas or by consuming mulberry juice, you can eliminate this problem. You can also take some basil leaves and drink some water after chewing it for some time. A decoction of the banyan tree herb can also be effective in reducing the pain of the ulcers. Similarly triphala choorna can minimize the pain associated with ulcers. Rinsing your mouth with henna herb can also help you get relief from this problem. A mixture of fenugreek leaves or turmeric can be used for rinsing your mouth to get relief from all types of mouth ulcers. Using a toothpaste having leaves of licorice herb also helps in cleansing the mouth.
Tips for mouth ulcers
For preventing mouth ulcers, abstain from eating fish. For brushing your teeth it is better not to make use of a hard toothbrush. You can also prevent ulcers to a certain extent by eliminating foods such as potato chips, spicy food stuffs etc from your diet. By having a proper or well-balanced diet with balance of minerals and vitamins you can curb this problem effectively.
