Libido in Menopausal Women

December 11, 2009

Menopause marks the end of a woman’s reproductive era. This is the time when the menstrual periods stop altogether leaving a woman to cope with the changes in life. This usually occurs when a woman is well past 40 and may be delayed up to the late forties in a few women as well. The levels of estrogen, often known as a female hormone, fall drastically causing prominent physical signs of age to catch up with the woman.

Most obvious signs of menopause are dryness of vagina along with the skin becoming wrinkled due to loss of elasticity. The breasts loose most of their tissue too and a woman who attains her menopause may often suffer from hot flushes as well a sweating attacks.

However, all the physical problems need not occur in all women. Most of them suffer from very little unpleasant symptoms and the transition period passes smoothly enough.

People believe that women lose their desire for having sex with menopause. While certain symptoms like the dryness of vagina may result in some uncomfortable moments, there is absolutely no scientific basis that  indicate the loss of libido in menopausal women.

The physical changes taking place rapidly within a woman’s body often leaves her confused and helpless. The weight gain, incontinence problems as well as dry and wrinkled skin may cause a loss of self esteem as well. It is time to take things in your stride. Physical changes occur at every stage in life, that is certainly no reason to shun male company.

On the contrary, it is the time for women to enjoy sex in an uninhabited manner. There is no fear of conception and the woman often starts enjoying the sexual act more and more as she does not have to worry about taking birth control measures all the time.

Sex is not just a physical activity, it involves a lot of emotion as well. Communication is the main key between two partners. Talking about each fear, apprehension or desire with her partner will help to keep a woman sexually active long after she attains menopause.

While there are women who complain of losing their libido after menopause, the very same women can learn to enjoy an active sex life with proper guidance even after she stops menstruating.
