Laughter- The Best Medicine

Laugh and the world will laugh with you. This is a common saying and we have often found it to be true. A smiling face greeting you early in the morning can really uplift your mood and make you cheerful. You become ready to face the world. No wonder, the act of laughing involves a lesser number of muscles than frowning. But did you know that laughing can also have a positive effect on your health? While the physical well being perpetrated by laughing is not obvious, we cannot deny that laughter does indeed add to our feeling of well being. Let us now see how laughing can help to boost our general health.

Stress- You can combat stress easily by laughter. Several studies have shown that your smile actually releases endorphins into the blood stream. These substances can lower the level of stress by controlling the related hormones. The burden of anxiety and nervous tension can easily be eliminated by just widening your smile.

Musculature- You may feel better by laughing uproariously at a joke, by watching a funny movie or even by laughing at yourself. Meanwhile, this very action makes the muscles of your abdomen, diaphragm and your shoulders work. These muscles contract while the other bodily muscles relax. Laughter also helps you to exhale the air out from your lungs. The action is very similar to that of deep breathing.

Immunity- Research has proved that feeling good can help to boost up our immune system considerably. Scientific studies have found that the T-cells present in our body help to ward off diseases by fighting against them. Laughing can actually enhance the production of the T-cells thereby helping us to remain healthy. Recent studies have also linked heart attacks with a lack of laughter. Cardiologists recommend a suitable diet, exercise and laughter for keeping your heart healthy.
