Infertility Drug Clomid and Associated Side Effects
There are literally thousands of women who have to resort to contraceptives regularly in order to prevent pregnancy. However, there are almost as many women who are anxious to start a family but are unable do so because of various infertility problems. Clomid is a prescription drug used for treating infertility issues. It increases the hormonal levels leading to ovulation. However, women with dysfunctional ovaries will not benefit from taking Clomid. Regular usage of the drug may give rise to a lot of other problems too. The side effects associated with Clomid may be trivial as well as serious.
Common Effects- Headaches, blurring of visions or seeing bright flashes before the eye are all common side effects of Clomid. These effects are purely temporary in nature and are normally reversed within a very short time. Abnormal bleeding through vagina or mood changes are rare side effects associated with Clomid. Women on Clomid prescriptions often complain of bloated feeling and abdominal pains too.
Serious Effects- A few women experience serious side effects of Clomid as well. Persistent pain in the abdomen with bloating may be a symptom of Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome too. Nausea and vomiting with an increase in the abdominal size point to OHSS. Shortness of breath and dizziness may also be found associated with OHSS. Allergic reaction to Clomid is extremely rare and requires immediate medical attention.
Present Conditions- The doctor should be informed if the patient has a history of ovarian cysts, endrometriosis or fibroid tumors of the uterus. These conditions may be further aggravated on continuous usage of Clomid without adequate precautionary measure.
Precautions- Overdose of Clomid needs to be avoided at all costs. Women should discontinue taking Clomid immediately after they become pregnant. Over dosage of the medicine can result in birth defects or multiple births. The risk increases progressively with higher doses of Clomid.
