How to treat sensitive teeth

It is pleasure to have a cup of hot coffee or chocholate icecream. But these items can be a pain in your mouth if you suffer from sensitive tooth. Sensitive tooth is very painful condition where eating hot or cold food creates a very painful sensation in your root. In the most severe cases even consuming water becomes painful.

What causes sensitive teeth

Our tooth nerves are protected by a hard white layer called enamel. They protect the soft tooth nerves making them immune to temperature. If for any reason enamel is worn out or is damaged, the tooth nerves comes directly in contact with the food we consume and they immediatetly become sensitive to the temperature and causes painful cold or hot sensation.

How to cure senstive teeth

Generally too much of brushing or the wrong way of brushing damages enamel and it exposes the teeth nerves. Therefore it is always advisable to brush in the correct way. One must always use soft bristles and should not put too much pressure on the teeth. Also the brushing time should not be more than two minutes.

Sometimes gum infection or other tooth disease also cause sensitive teeth.

Eating too hot or too cold food also at times causes chipping or cracking of the tooth enamel and results in the sensitive tooth. It is important that one should not eat too much hot or cold food one after the another. For example you should not take icecreame just after hot coffee. It will damage the enamel and create cracks that can induce sensitivity in teeth.

There are certain mouthwash or tooth whitening paste or gel which damages tooth enamel. One must avoid toothpaste with high sodium pyrophosphate as it increases the chances of tooth sensitivity.

Avoid eating too much of citric and acidic food as they can damage the enamel of your teeth. Eating too much sweet things are strict no no as they can delay the process of healing. Also drinking too much of cold drinks or soda may create sensation in teeth.

There are many toothpaste available in the market that are meant for the sensitive teeth. They help in easing the sensation. However it the problem persists it is always advisable that the patient must consult the dentish to get relief from the pain.
