Although ophthalmologists prescribe a lot of drugs there may be little or no improvement at all. However, you can try out a few natural remedies to slow down the progress of the Glaucoma.

Diet- The Glaucoma Research Foundation recommends less intake of coffee for people diagnosed with Glaucoma. Caffeine is directly linked with the elevation of the intraocular pressure and is considered to be a risk factor for Glaucoma.

Drinking large quantities of water at one go is harmful for patients afflicted with glaucoma. Drinking water is however a necessity and should be taken in small quantities throughout the day.

Eating fish particularly those rich in omega-3 fatty acids are extremely beneficial for decreasing the eye pressure.

Vitamins C,A and E along with minerals like zinc, copper and selenium supplements can be used to promote the health of the eye as well as the general health of the patient. A balanced diet consisting of all the nutrients will help in maintaining  the eye pressure at an optimum level.

Herbs- The European Blueberry is known to contain Bilberry which can strengthen the minute blood vessels of the eyes thereby protecting the eyes from  the debilitating effects of Glaucoma. However, this treatment has not been tested by the FDA as yet.

Certain oriental herbs like the Ginkgo biloba, forskolin and Coleus forskohlii as well as the Chinese herb Dan Shen are known to minimize the effects of Glaucoma.

Exercises- Walking as well as riding a stationary  bike may help to reduce the pressure within the eye. Meditation and relaxation techniques can also help to improve the condition substantially. Yoga exercises might be beneficial too. However, the movements which require inversion of the head are contraindicated for patients suffering from Glaucoma.
