How to protect your eyes
Eyes are truly the windows of the soul as they help us to express your feelings and see the world in a better way. Many doctors are also known to give prescription only after looking into the patient’s eyes. It is only with the help of the eyes that you can watch TV and films, read books and drive cars etc. Your life style can be changed completely if your eyes get affected. Hence you must take adequate care of this important organ of the human body. You can undertake the following measures to protect your eyes.
The light in your study room must be such that it is not too bright or glaring. You can also allow lights to be in such a way that it comes from down or behind and does not fall on your eyes directly. Even while watching TV it is better to keep the lights on and not see TV in darkness as this can affect your eyes in the long term. If you suffer from tired eyes because of long hours of study or writing you can take a break and rest for several minutes. You can close the eyes and see distant objects such as trees during the break.
If you should remain outdoors for a long time you can protect your eyes using sun glasses and an umbrella that can protect your eyes. Too much of sun exposure can hurt your eyes and cause undue harm. You must also refrain from rubbing your eyes when some irritant goes into the eye. Foreign matters can be washed away through the tears and secretion of the eyes.
You can also wash your eyes using cold water to remove foreign bodies. But you must not make use of chemicals, acid or alkali for this purpose. You must wash your eyes using clear or cool water completely and immediately after coming home from work. If you still feel some sort of irritation you can see the doctor.
You can also check your eyes periodically to prevent eye disorders. If you have a school going child you must have his eyes checked regularly. Adults above 40 years of age must also have a regular check-up, at least once a month or twice a year.
