How To Prevent Computer Eye Strain
Computer has become part of our lives as we are depending more on it for our day to day activities. However spending long hours in front of computer can put unnecessary strain on your eyes muscles and nerves and may effect your vision. Computer eye strain is very common for those who spend about 6-8 hours continuously over computer.
Symptoms of Computer Eye Strain
One of the most common symptoms of computer eye strain is red watery eyes. One can also feel continuous irritation and heaviness in eyelids and swollen eyes.
Also continuously staring on computer screen can give you severe headache and sometimes it can also create problem in concentrating.
Sometimes overstrain can also blur our vision. However these symptoms may vary with the intensity of the strain.
How to avoid Computer Eye Strain
It is very difficult for us to avoid computer usage, especially if our jobs are computer based. But we can take some extra care to lessen the damaging strain on our eye muscles.
When you are working for long hours, take a break of at least 5 minutes after every hour. Rest your head on the chair and close your eyes for some time. It will sooth the eye muscles and will also break the monotony of work.
You must make sure that the lighting is perfect in the room where you are working. Both dim light and too bright light will only add to the eye strain.
Please keep in mind that the source of light in your computer room is at your back and not staring on your face. You can also use anti-glare lenses that can minimize the strain caused due to lighting.
Incorrect sitting posture also adds to the eye strain. Ideally the computer screen should be at the distance of 20-25 inches from your eyes. Also your computer screen must be placed at your eye level or little above it.
If you are typing or reading make it sure that the font size is not too small as it can put unnecessary pressure on your eye muscle and can give you severe headache.
One can also try the eye-lubricants to keep them moist but before using them you must consult your ophthalmologist.
