How to Deal with Ovarian Cysts
An ovarian cyst may be accompanied by fluid formation inside an ovary. Though about 85% of adult females suffer from ovarian cysts at some point in their lives, most of these cysts are benign. The symptoms and size of the cyst will determine the type and mode of treatment. For small and asymptomatic cysts, you can adopt and wait and watch approach with regular check ups with the doctor.
Painful sensation accompanies ovarian cyst formation. However, you can use pain killers recommended by doctors to get relief from pain and other related symptoms.
Even non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be prescribed by your doctor. Hot water bottle or warming pad can also be used in the lower stomach region which can relieve cramping, reduce soreness and remove the strain from muscles. It can also help by encouraging the circulation in the ovaries. You must also reduce strenuous activity which can minimize the risk of cyst rupture or torsion.
Contraception methods such as oral contraceptive pills can also be taken as this can regulate the menstrual cycle and prevent the formation of cysts. It can also reduce the size of the existing cyst.
There are also several surgical procedures such as opherectomy and cystectomy for handling the problem of ovarian cysts. Cystectomy involves a surgical method whereby cysts or the entire gall bladder can be removed. The ovaries can be retained in an intact manner so that a woman can conceive and have her baby when she plans for the same.
In this way a woman will not lose her power to have a baby in the future. Even if the ovaries are cancerous, they may have to be removed. In orchiectomy, either a single or both the ovaries may be surgically removed. This is the last resort for cure from the problem of ovarian cysts.
The aforesaid are some of the medical procedures to handle the problem of ovarian cysts. You need to opt for extreme methods such as surgery only if all other natural methods or medical treatments fail to yield the desired results.
You can also get the cyst frequently examined by the doctor to decide the course of treatment.
