How Colors Effect Our Mood?
Our world is awash with colors. And each of us have a favorite color of our own. Even so we may find our moods change when surrounded by certain colors. Studies have proved that colors do have an effect on our psyche, we react to colors unconsciously. Let us find out how they influence us:
Almost all shades of blue and green seem to have a calming effect on us. Now I am not talking of the brilliant electric blue here. All other shades including their derivatives like lilac, violet or a pale purple may soothe your nerves and help you to relax.
Various shades of aqua or a mixture of blue and green may actually put you off to sleep. There may be an underlying desire to mingle with nature in our subconscious which makes us feel happy and laid back amongst a surfeit of blue and green.
Deep purple, however, is a color of royalty. It also signifies mysticism and eroticism. Healing powers have been known to be associated with purple.
Neutral colors do not excite us unduly even if they may not have the same calming effect as blue or green. Earthy browns, beige or even mauve may leave us unruffled.
Red on the other hand is the color of passion. It is also the color of love, lust and life. It signifies the extreme. If you go back to the pages of history, you will find that red was the most sacred color and used during various religious rituals. It signifies life itself.
Yellow has been equated to the rays of the sun; therefore it signifies the continuity of life. Bright yellow elevates our mood and makes us cheerful.
White is again a neutral color and does nothing for our mood. It can be used effectively to create an illusion of space by the interior decorators.
Black, on the other hand, signifies the evil, sin and secrecy. It also has a deeply powerful connotation.
