Home Remedies for Hair Lice

Pediculosis or lice infestation is a common problem faced by human beings, especially school-going children. Lice are wingless, small, parasitic insects which thrive on blood derived from the human scalp. They live on hairs of human beings and can make skin to itch by spreading easily. Another person can contract lice infestation easily through touch or human contact. Anti lice treatments such as natural shampoos and oils can be used to get rid of this common problem.

What causes lice infestation?

The type of lice infestation depends on the type of insect a person is infested with. Head lice, body lice or pubic lice are the types of lice that can cause infestation. The risk factors that are found to cause lice infestation include sharing of bedding or clothing with a lice infested person or any other form of close contact.

Natural home remedies for hair lice treatment

Massage the hair with olive oil and leave it for 8 hours for getting rid of lice. You can use Rosemary oil drops on hair .  A mixture of vinegar and oil helps to remove lice and nits too. You can also massage the scalp with petroleum jelly and leave it on for 8 hours. This can be done before going to sleep and hair can be washed early in the morning to get rid of lice.

Unsalted, melted margarine has also been found to be an effective anti-lice natural treatment. The scalp can be massaged with fish oil or Mayonnaise which can be left overnight. This can be followed by washing of the hair in the morning. This remedy works wonders in clearing away the nits and lice. You can follow it up by using a small nit comb to remove the dead nits which still remain in the hair.

Another excellent home remedy for clearing hair lice is to use a mixture of mashed ginger and lemon juice. This mixture can be applied on to scalp and can be washed away with a shampoo after 8 hours to get a permanent solution against lice infestation.
