You must take foods which are easily digestible. Restricting the consumption of milk products and milk especially while you suffer from bouts of depression can help a great deal. You must also avoid spicy, oily food stuffs and eat natural foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables. The patient must be made to eat a balanced diet rich in brown rice, gram, fruits, fresh juice and wheat flour. You must avoid caffeine, chocolates and eat foods rich in Vitamin C which is a proven anti depressant.

Ashwagandha is an effective herbal remedy for depression and stress. It has the inherent qualities by which it can eliminate negative thoughts from the mind. Cardamom is another herb which can help in relieving anxiety and stress. It can soothe the nerves as it has a pleasant odor. Drinking tea with cardamom in it helps to cure depression to a certain extent.

Brahmi is another powerful herb that is used in the treatment of depression. It helps to bring the mind to a comfortable state by relaxing it. The oil of Brahmi has soothing and cooling effect on the mind. Through its regular use, depression can be kept at bay. Another powerful herb used in treating depression and stress is turmeric which has antiseptic properties also.

Depression caused owing to change of seasons can be controlled by its use. Guggul is also advocated as an effective cure for depression because it can help in improving the coordination of the nerves. Depression originating from seasonal affective disorder can be cured by this herb. So also the Jatamanshi herb helps to calm the mind and flush out depressive thoughts.
