Herbal Birth Control Methods
Birth control methods have never gone out of fashion. In fact people in the older days had a much more concrete understanding of their bodily functions and used herbs together with a variety of home remedies in order to prevent conception.
Knowledge about different herbs is essential as they all have different properties which may work well in certain circumstances while completely failing in another type of situation. You also need to consider the side effects that are associated with these herbs.
Sterility- The roots of Stone seed and Jack-in-the-Pulpit act as sterility promoters and will make you temporarily sterile for a while. This is particularly beneficial as you can avoid getting pregnant even during the most fertile period of your cycle. Thistles can also be used for the same purpose as well.
Implantation- Certain herbs prevent implantation of the sperm into the uterus. The herbs are usually taken just before or after the sexual act and have no side effects associated with them. Wild carrot seeds, Rutin and Smartweed leaves are a few of the commonly used implantation preventers.
Menstrual stimulators- Certain herbs can induce the menstrual flow and are known as emmenagogues. They can be taken for regularizing the menstrual cycle and can also promote menstruation if pregnancy is suspected. Although you can get well over fifty different herbs which act as emmenagogues, Tansy leaves and ginger roots are used more often.
Vitamin C is also a powerful menstruation promoter and can prove to be effective even when the menstrual period is overdue by three weeks.
Uterine Contractors- Some herbs like Water hemlock and Slippery Elm weed cause frequent contractions of the uterus and help in inducing an early abortion or miscarriage. However, the use of these herbs need to be restricted as they produce powerful contractions which may prove to be detrimental to the user’s health.
A few of these herbs need to be inserted into the cervical opening in order to bring about the contraction and results in severe infections specially if the whole procedure is carried out in unhygienic conditions.
