Health Risks From Cell Phone Use

There has been a rapid increase in the number of cell phone users over the last decade or two. Even school kids have started using cell phones continuously without understanding the possible health risks related to the use of cell phones.

According to a study published in a scientific journal published in 2007, long term use of cell phones can lead to increased risk for contracting conditions such as glioma and acoustic neuroma. Cell phone usage is also linked to ipsilateral exposure or risk towards tumor on the same side of the brain where the phone is held normally.

Another study published in 2006 in Sweden also reiterates the view that long term cell phone usage can lead to increased risk for malignant brain tumors in people who have been using cell phones for more than 10 years. Many cancer experts have also advocated usage of the phone to a limited extent, especially in children as they can be prone to cancer risk owing to its use.  It is also essential that children make use of cell phones in emergencies only because their brains are still developing.

According to the FDA, the phones generate low levels of radio frequency while they are in use and a very  low level of radio frequency when they are in standby mode. Cell phones also are the reason for an increasing number of car and two wheeler accidents because the drivers tend to be glued to their handsets even while driving their vehicles. Cell phone users who have been using such phones for a long period of time or those who talk for more than an hour a day are more likely to suffer from hearing loss of high frequency. You can however limit your health risk by limiting your exposure through the use of speaker phone, headsets or holding the phone a little away from your ear.
