Hay Fever- Symptoms
We almost always equate sneezing with catching a cold. However, this is not true at all. Sneezing can be triggered of by allergic reactions to the body. A lot of people complain of ‘Hay Fever’ which is in fact a kind of allergy set off by inhaling pollens originating from plants. This is mostly seasonal in nature and may be aggravated when the person is exposed to dust as well as as other contaminants present in the air.
Hay Fever Seasons- The season of the allergy coincides with the seasonal scattering of pollens from all kinds of vegetation. May through July/August is the time for grass pollens to find its way into your body. Late flowering trees can cause the same reaction from February to June of each year. Nettle is the commonest cause of Hay Fever and the air is laden with the pollens from August to September. However, the reaction may continue throughout the year and may spread via pets or indoor molds too.
Symptoms- People afflicted by ‘Hay Fever’ tend to have inflamed nasal passages which is characterized by itchy, red eyes which water frequently. Continual bouts of sneezing with a runny nose are typical symptoms linked with ‘Hay Fever’. You will find it difficult to breathe properly through your nose if you suffer from Hay Fever. Studies have shown that the allergy can affect your quality of life, disturb your sleep patterns and hamper your concentration and performance as well.
There are often dark circles under your eyes caused by a reduced flow of blood near the sinuses. Your nose may become sore with crease marks on them as it is subjected to continuous rubbing specially in case of a child. The watering of eyes may lead to conjunctivitis too. The body adapts itself gradually and the symptoms may wear off as you become older.
