Handling Heartburn

Indigestion is also known as heartburn. The person suffering from heartburn will feel that after eating their food has not been digested properly. Sometimes heartburn can make you feel sop bad that you may think that you are suffering from a heart attack. Some easy ways to control heartburn is to eat less. Take care to see that you eat your food slowly as well as eat less. If you are suffering from heartburn do not lie down flat; walk around instead and see if the food is settling. If you do need to lie down then make sure to keep your head elevated. If you are suffering from heartburn avoid milk and alcohol and also avoid eating tomatoes as these are all highly acidic and will only make you feel worse.

Reduce your intake of caffeine till you are feeling better and avoid aerated drinks as well. A good way to avoid heart burn and give the food some more time to settle is to eat your dinner earlier before going to bed. Overweight people tend to suffer from heartburn more than others so check your fat and reduce.

Cut down on your smoking and make sure you are away from passive smokers as well. You can also buy an over the counter medicine to make you feel better that will help your digestion.

If you find that you are regularly suffering from heartburn even though you are taking precautions or have blood in the stools accompanied with the feeling of heart burn; it would be better to consult a doctor so that he can examine you and make sure you keep a note of your food intake as he would change your diet.

Heartburn is usually caused after you have eaten so if you feel it before your meal you should know that; that could be an ulcer. If you take proper care you should feel better within a few hours. Make sure to go for  a short walk after your meals rather than straight to bed.

If stress is causing your heartburn then you could do some relaxation exercises that will help in reducing the heartburn.
