Food Items to Prevent Depression

Many people have the depressive eating disorder which is certainly not a good thing as it promotes weight gain. But then one can’t even ignore the fact that we need to stay away from the depression even if we have to eat some extra calories because the ultimate aim is to get rid of the depression. Well, here is a list of food items which will not provide you calories but still will make you feel happier, foliate and more enthusiastic.

Water: Sometimes dehydration can also become the reason for your lower self esteem. You shouldn’t let the scarcity of water hamper your spirits. Make sure you have 8 – 10 glasses of water every day. Stay well hydrated to avoid the blues.

Folate: Some green leafy vegetables like spinach, asparagus, whole grains, etc are food items rich in vitamins and minerals which instantly boost up your spirits and help fighting depression.

Omega 3 Acids: Salmon, the cold water fish is known to be rich in the omega-3 fatty acid. It is a good option to fight depression.

Proteins: Foods like lean meat, soy products, cheese, etc are rich in protein. They help the brain to focus better. When you feel depressed, these items take the energy in digesting the proteins because of which you feel lethargic and tend to sleep. Thus they help in taking your mind off negative things thus helping you prevent depression.

Calcium: Calcium found in dairy products is very good for fighting depression. Yogurt is a very healthy dairy product which provides you with calcium without many calories.

Pectin: Pectin is a product which is found in grapes and grapefruit and some vegetables like carrot. Pectin has the power to reverse the effect of anger on the body. Thus it is a good option to fight depression.

Dark Chocolate: Chocolate contains serotonin and endorphin which can boost up your morale within seconds and dark chocolates doesn’t even make you fat. It is a very healthy option to fight depression.
