Since you have no back rest, you will automatically be forced to adopt a straight posture which in turn will keep your spine healthy. Sitting on a ball is thus an ideal way of getting rid of a nagging back pain without having to exercise rigorously every single day of your life.
Using a ball to complement your exercise is also an excellent idea. Trying to keep the ball from rolling around can be a challenging task indeed. A lot of balance and core strength is required to keep the ball absolutely still. This in itself will provide you with an effective lesson in stability as well as rehabilitation. You can try out an exercise ball after a round of Pilate exercise. However, the core strength exercises are not easy to do and trying them out alone without a physical instructor around is not a good idea.
Precautions- It is not advisable to try working the exercise ball when you feel the beginnings of an acute back pain.
Trying to exercise with the aid of a fitness ball may be prove to be even more harmful if you have certain spinal conditions and suffer from persistent pain in the spine caused by a degenerative diseases. If exercising with the ball increases your pain instead of lessening them.
