Essential Vitamins for women’s health

Women’s health requires the support of certain Vitamins for meeting certain unique demands of the body. Vitamins differ in its type and dosage along different stages of a woman’s life cycle from teen, 20s, 30s, and so on. As women passes through her distinguished phases of pregnancy, post partum and menopause, they require some essential vitamins for maintaining a healthy body.Read on to know what the essential add-ons for woman’s healthy body are.

Balanced diet: A balanced diet is necessary for a woman in order to obtain all the essential nutrients (vitamins and minerals) for her good health. The best way to get the vitamins and minerals to the body is through a well balanced diet. Taking supplements is the secondary option where the essential nutrients are not obtained by the body through diet.

Vitamin C: Vitamin C serves the advantages of boosting the immune system, fighting heart diseases and preventing cancer irrespective of the stage of a woman’s life. It also contributes for anti-aging effect and skin protection. Vitamin C can be obtained from Brussel sprouts, Orange and other citrus, etc. Nowadays there are good Vitamin C supplements available in the markets too.

Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid): Vitamin B9, popularly known as Folic acid is very essential for women during pregnancy. It helps to maintain a healthy nervous system for the mother as well as the baby. At least 400 micrograms of Vitamin B9 is recommended to be taken each day. This also plays a major role in reducing the risk of some birth defects almost by half. Sweet potato, cabbage and lentils are a good source of Vitamin B9.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E is not only good for a healthy heart, but also contributes towards maintaining good female health during menopause. The hot flashes experienced by women at the time of menopause will be reduced with the intake of sufficient Vitamin E. It is suggested to include at least 15 mg of Vitamin E each day to ensure its benefits. Being rich in antioxidants, it also prevents cancer to an extent. Peanut butter, tomato paste, etc are good source of Vitamin E.

Vitamin A: Vitamin A is known for its benefits towards vision and eye related issues. Egg yolks, liver, etc. are good source of Vitamin A. 800mcg of Vitamin A are recommended to be taken in order to achieve its maximum advantage.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D helps to prevent Osteoporosis in women, thereby improves the health of bones and teeth. 2.5 micrograms of Vitamin D is recommended to be taken per day as women are more prone to have the risk of Osteoporosis. But in the case of pregnant and lactating women, 10 micrograms of Vitamin D is recommended.
