Eliminate Black Eyes

We have all heard of ‘black eyes’ caused by physical injury. The injury derives its name from the color of the skin. The black color is a result of bleeding underneath the skin and is actually a bruising of the skin rather than injury to the eye. The condition is not serious but looks ugly. You can try the following in order to get rid of your black marks.

Cold Compress- An injury near the eye can be minimized by applying a cold compress over the bruised area. This will help to reduce the swelling and discoloration of the skin. The ‘cold’ will help to restrict the minute blood vessels below the sensitive skin near your eye. You must have heard the old wives’ tale of treating the black eye with a piece of raw steak straight from the refrigerator. However, it is better to use a piece of ice wrapped in clean cloth on the area surrounding your eye.

Analgesics- Pain killers containing acetaminophen and caffeine can effectively reduce formation of black eye and pin. The caffeine present in analgesics is a vasoconstrictor by nature and prevents seepage of blood from the capillaries into the surrounding area.

Warm Compress- After treating the area immediately with a cold compress you need to switch over to warm compresses after a period of 48 hours. The heat applied will now dilate the blood vessels to increase blood flow to the affected area. It will help to wash out the damaged and dead tissue thereby restoring normal color of the skin. Blood clots underneath the skin can also eliminated by applying a warm compress.

Posture- Keeping your head raised will help to decrease the blood pressure in your head. Although both hot and cold compresses reduce the blackening of skin, even a small amount of pressure on the tiny blood vessels may cause the blood to seep out under the bruise again.
