Diarrhea – Causes and Cures
Loose stools or an increase in the number of bowel movement are the symptoms of diarrhea. This condition can also result when excess fluid gets leaked into stool due to inflammation of the bowel lining. Diarrhea can also be accompanied by nausea, cramps, fever and vomiting.Food poisoning and stomach flu can also cause diarrhea. When this problem occurs, your body gets cleared of bacteria, viruses or toxins present in the digestive tract. Diarrhea will clear itself mostly with home treatment. E.Coli bacteria can also cause diarrhea.
Other reasons for the occurrence of this condition include the intake of unpasteurized dairy products or untreated water. Parasitic infection such as Giardia lamblia can also cause this problem. You can develop these infections by using untreated water to brush your teeth, wash your dishes or vegetables, or make ice for drinks.
Some of the medications can also induce this condition. Bacteria Clostridium difficile or C-diff can cause severe diarrhea which can begin after the treatment with this antibiotic. Also laxatives such as EX-Lax, Correctol and Dulcolax can lead to this condition. Also traveler’s diarrhea is quite common which can occur during traveling.
Lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, stress can also cause diarrhea in some people. Food poisoning is the main reason that causes this condition among children.
Various steps have been mentioned by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for preventing food poisoning which is the main underlying cause for this condition. These include preparation of foods must be done in safe and hygienic conditions.
You must cook foods to the right temperature and serve it with care. While shopping for foods see for the manufacturing and expiry date and also follow the label instructions properly. People must also take care to store foods safely and not to use left over food very often.
Diarrhea and its related problem namely dehydration can be solved or prevented using simple home remedies. Consuming rehydration drinks or water frequently or snacking on salty biscuits can keep the problem under control or cure it quickly. You must also take care to consume foods prepared hygienically and drink safe water to be free of this problem.
