Dealing with Baldness

Most people are fearful of losing hair and once the process begins all possible things are tried so as to reduce hair fall. It is now known that baldness is most likely genetically determined,and that the genes for baldness are carried on non sex linked chromosomes.

However in order for baldness to manifest itself, androgens the hormones that induce male sexual development, must be present;which is why the problem of baldness occurs more so in men than in women. Baldness is also more marked in men because men are initially endowed with fewer hair follicles per square inch os scalp as in the case of women.Thus, hair loss is more easily discernible in males.

By the age of fifty, sixty percent of the males experience some degree of hair loss, and many begin showing signs of hair lossas early as the age of twenty. Baldness is much less frequent among orientals and blacks.

The likelihood of baldness in men or in women can be increased. Stress,which causes a tightening of the scalp, increases the odds of hair loss.Baldness can also be caused or accelerated by scalp infections, radiation, excess, environmental pollutants and by a reaction to drugs. such as thyroid medications, anti cancer drugs and any preparations with sex hormones. Short term hair loss or thinning of the hair can occur during illness and pregnancy. This is not likely to lead to baldness. It is mors temporary in nature.

Products containing anti baldness compound derived from retinol which is a substance very commonly use in some of the medicines for acne are helpful in the treatment of baldness. Some products come close to curing baldness, claiming to arrest hair loss. However for many men hair transplants or wigs and toupees are a satisfactory alternative to baldness. Scalp reduction surgery which is a procedure that involves the removal and tightening of the skin near the forehead or the base of the neck and also scalp flap surgery to curb receding hairlines are some of the ways to cure baldness. They are actually quite risky and expensive as well.

Another way to cure baldness is by hair weaving.Hair weaving is a temporary process for disguising hair loss.
